LABELING IN CHEMISTRY | AGRICULTURAL CHEMISTRY
The legal requirements and applicable laws of global legislators oblige manufacturers of chemical and agrochemical products to label their products.
In agriculture, tested and legally approved pesticides are deliberately used as an essential component. Without the use of pesticides, crop losses due to pests could rise to over 80%. Pests, weeds and diseases are regulated by pesticides. Counterfeit and illegal pesticides pose real risks to the health of farmers, end users, the environment and the economy. The trade in counterfeit products is increasing worldwide. To counteract this, the European Crop Protection (ECPA) has issued CRISTAL guidelines which chemical and agrochemical producers can follow on a voluntary basis. Serialized data matrix codes according to international standards (e.g. GHS, GS1) on packaging and units are intended to reliably cover the traceability of the product, batch and sales unit across all logistics levels. A consistent track and trace system leads to more transparency in the supply chain and can thus protect consumers and the environment from counterfeit products and illegal pesticides. Manufacturers must integrate track and trace functionalities into their supply chain to ensure seamless traceability.

LABELING OF CHEMICALS
What are the special features of the labelling of chemicals?
Many chemical products such as paint, varnishes, fuels, adhesives, pickling agents, solvents and cleaning agents pose a risk to the environment or human health. Especially if they are flammable, toxic, explosive, corrosive, irritant, carcinogenic, environmentally hazardous or sensitizing. They must therefore be labelled accordingly. To protect the consumer and user, special labelling regulations are prescribed for this.
The EC Regulation issued in January 2009 introduced the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for the worldwide labelling of hazardous substances in Europe. The classification and labelling law has changed accordingly: Chemicals are now classified according to the same criteria, risks are visibly marked and user instructions for safe handling of the chemical are given.
This approach will better protect the consumer and the environment when using chemicals and the associated hazards and risks. When chemicals are exported, the labelling no longer differs according to the country of destination, thus simplifying the trade in chemicals.
What must be observed according to the new GHS labelling system?
The new labelling law for chemicals has been introduced in Europe. In some cases, the symbols of the hazardous substance labelling have only been visually adapted. However, three completely new pictograms have been added:
the gas cylinder
the exclamation mark
the pictogram for health hazard
In addition to the new pictograms, a signal word supplement was also added:
ATTENTION indicates a less serious danger category
DANGER indicates a serious category of danger
The following pictograms have been completely dropped due to the new regulation:
Black St. Andrew's cross in the orange field
How can the GHS labelling requirements be implemented?
A label design and automation software is suitable for the implementation of the GHS regulations. b+b offers the best economic and most flexible solution. The label software Labels Platform 4 from b+b can be used for every imaginable printing, labelling, automation or visualisation task. It allows you a flexible label design. It is the control centre of your labelling solution.
LabelsPlatform 4 with its integrated label editor forms the core of the LP4 automation solution.
MARKING KEG BARRELS VARIABLE AND SAFE
How can I quickly and securely label KEG with variable data?
The application of labels by hand is usually problematic. Labelling inaccuracies and a high expenditure of time are usually the result.
Increasing demands on the beverage industry make it more difficult to label products. Label printing and dispensing systems enable you to label products and their packaging precisely, reliably and quickly using different applicators and label transfer modules. The printing and dispensing of the label is done in one system.
Various requirements are necessary for maximum efficiency in your production:
required printing speed
required donation speed
Integration in existing production lines and production lines
The label printing dispensers EDS 420i and 620i meet almost any requirement due to their modular design, a wide range of functions, accessories and applicators.
Thanks to the modularity of the label printing dispenser, you always opt for the best solution in terms of economy.
LABELING OF SMALL AND LARGE CONTAINERS IN AGROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY
How can small and large containers be labeled?
Due to legal regulations for the labelling of chemical products, the requirements for the supply chain in the chemical and agrochemical industry are increasing. Illegible or detached labels can lead to confusion and therefore pose a high risk to people and the environment.
A marking system that is integrated into an existing production line in the chemical industry usually runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A breakdown would lead to a complete production stop. The labelling process of the product and packaging surfaces is complicated by environmental conditions such as dust and high humidity. The focus of the labelling process is on labelling accuracy and speed. In order not to negatively affect the efficiency of the production line, uninterrupted labelling must be guaranteed.
Whether it's shaped bottles for detergents, paint cans, paint buckets, oil canisters, containers, barrels and hobboks: the packaging formats for chemical and agrochemical products are very diverse and sometimes irregular in design.
b+b offers marking and labelling solutions for different containers, formats and labels:
In the logistics of chemistry and agarchemical manufacturers, there are specific and legal requirements for labeling the load carrier. Pallets must therefore be clearly labeled, for example, so that downstream processes in the supply chain, such as shipping or distribution, can be designed efficiently. The ready-to-ship pallets must be labeled in accordance with GS1. The pallets can be labeled on one side, on both sides or on three sides with GS1-compliant transport labels. To ensure quality, various containers must also be provided with a corner label (tamper evident).

TRACK AND TRACE IN THE BEVERAGE INDUSTRY
Worldwide, the production and trade of illegal pesticides ranks fourth, so illegal and counterfeit pesticides account for almost 14% of the EU pesticides market. Over 670 tonnes of counterfeit and illegal pesticides have been seized by EUROPOL.
